Keep it free,
and keep it private

Every tool here does its work inside your own browser. Your file is never uploaded, never stored, never scanned and never sold, because there is no server for any of that to happen on. That design costs nothing to run per person — but it is built and paid for by one developer, and it stays free because people occasionally chip in.

What your file goes through everywhere else

Search for a way to merge two PDFs or shrink a photograph and every result asks for the same thing first: upload it.

The file leaves your control

A scan of a passport, a signed contract, a payslip, a medical letter, a client's confidential document — these are exactly the files people convert, and exactly the files that should not be sitting on a server belonging to a company you have never heard of, in a country you did not choose, under a retention policy you cannot verify. "We delete files after one hour" is a sentence, not a guarantee. There is no way to check it.

The waiting is deliberate

Upload progress bars, processing countdowns, queue positions and daily limits are rarely technical necessities. They are pressure applied at the moment you are least able to walk away, because the file is already there. On a site with no server, none of it exists: the work happens at the speed of your own machine and finishes when it finishes.

Then the interruptions

Pop-ups over the download button. Buttons labelled "Download" that are advertisements. New tabs opening on their own. A sign-up wall between you and the file you made. Ten megabyte limits designed to sell you a subscription. None of that happens here, and none of it ever will — it is the whole reason this exists.

What you are actually paying for

Very little, which is the point. There is no server bill, because there is no server. There is no storage bill, because nothing is stored. What there is:

CostWhat it covers
The domainRoughly the price of two coffees a year, renewed annually and permanently.
HostingStatic files on a free tier. It stays free because the work happens on your device rather than on a machine someone rents.
The timeThe part that is genuinely expensive. Every parser here — for JPEG, HEIC, PDF, Office documents and ZIP archives — was written by hand rather than pulled from a library, so that there is no third-party code between you and your own file.

Contributions go towards keeping the domain renewed and paying for the hours that go into the next tool. Nothing here is behind a paywall, and nothing will be.

Wherever you are reading this from

A note for the places most of this site's visitors come from, because the reason to care differs.

United States and Canada

State privacy laws increasingly treat file contents and the metadata inside them as personal information. If you handle client documents professionally — legal, medical, financial, HR — uploading them to a third-party converter is a disclosure you may have to account for. Processing on your own device is not one, because no transfer takes place.

United Kingdom and the European Union

Under UK GDPR and the GDPR, sending a document containing personal data to an online service is a transfer to a processor, and possibly a transfer outside your region. It requires its own lawful basis and its own assessment. A tool that never transmits the file removes the question rather than answering it, which is a materially simpler position to be in.

United Arab Emirates and the Gulf

Business here runs on documents crossing borders — contracts, trade paperwork, visa and identity scans, invoices. Many organisations have data residency expectations that an anonymous overseas upload service quietly breaks. Nothing leaves the laptop it started on, so there is no residency question to answer.

India, and everywhere else

Bandwidth costs money and connections are not always fast. Uploading a forty megabyte scan in order to shrink it, then downloading it again, is a strange amount of data to spend on a local operation. Doing it on the device uses none, and works on a train with no signal at all.

Honest notes

There are adverts on this site

It would be easy to imply otherwise on a page asking for money. There are display adverts, they help cover the domain, and they are described in the privacy policy. What there is not: pop-ups, interstitials, adverts disguised as download buttons, tabs that open by themselves, or anything placed between you and the file you came for. Contributions reduce how much the site needs to lean on advertising at all.

Nothing is unlocked by paying

There is no premium tier, no larger file size for supporters, no queue to skip. Everyone gets everything. Contributing changes nothing about what you can do here, which is rather the point of contributing.

You do not have to pay anything

Use the tools as much as you like and ignore this page entirely. Telling one person who handles sensitive documents that these exist is worth as much as the money.

Other ways to help

If money is not the right thing right now, all of these genuinely help.

Report something broken

A file that produced the wrong result, or a cleaned document that would not reopen, is the most valuable message this site receives. Describe the file rather than sending it — never email a document you would not want a stranger to read. The contact page has the address.

Tell someone who needs it

Lawyers, journalists, HR teams, accountants and anyone who photographs documents for a living. They are handling exactly the files that should not be uploaded anywhere, usually without knowing there is an alternative.

Ask for a tool

The tools here exist because someone needed them. If something obvious is missing and it can be done in a browser, it is worth asking for.
